The people of Karila also make all kinds of handicrafts and natural products outside of working at the caf\u00e9. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Signe knits wonderfully warm mittens, makes Lappish drums and collects herbs for her own tea blends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Annukka sews merino wool beanies, neck warmers and balaclavas in her quieter time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lea, on the other hand, makes dolls and processes the produce from the semi-wild herb garden into Spirit of \u00c4k\u00e4slompolo products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karila Farm grows herbs such as mint<\/strong>, nettle<\/strong>, yarrow<\/strong>, and other herbs are collected from the surrounding area.<\/span><\/span> Products are made from the herbs to be sold at the Navettagalleria caf\u00e9.

Other products are also made from herbs, berries, and mushrooms, such as matsutake salt<\/strong>, juniper berry salt<\/strong>, rose<\/strong>-, elderberry-<\/strong>, and mint sugar<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Signe is our longest-serving employee. Signe and Sami (Lea\u2019s son) met twelve years ago in Tivoli, Finland, where they were both working summer jobs at the time. They now live in \u00c4k\u00e4slompo with their three-year-old son Heino. Signe is therefore the daughter-in-law of the house.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We have a small shop within the caf\u00e9<\/a>, where we display local \u2013 and also our own \u2013 handicrafts and herbal products. For sale are warm mittens and colorful Lappish drums made by Signe, merino wool hats and neckerchiefs by Annukka, herbal products by Lea, postcards and posters by Elsa-Maria, fun jewelry, and decorative figures made by Irina from Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
